There are a lot of little things that happen or get said each day that I just don't want to forget. Its difficult to remember Luke at Brody's age, and once Luke starts speaking fluently, I know I will forget the funny little things he said when he was first beginning to talk. So these may not mean much to you as a reader, but they mean something as a mom. Hopefully they will jog my memory in later years.
A friend of ours once told us that the best moment is when your kids say 'I love you' back. Now that Luke is speaking so well I've been waiting for that moment. We were reading a book that says, "Thank you God for the food we eat." We always go through the page and talk about what is on each plate..."booger" (burger), "fish," "cake...I LOVE cake." Ha! The first time he says he loves something, its cake!
A older gentleman approached me at Costco and asked if I'd help him read the peanut butter label. As we walked away from talking with him, Luke asked, "Who dat, Mama?"
He does the same thing when I get off the phone.
Luke often comes with me before church to set up. Just before church begins the staff meets to pray. We had gotten through most of the prayer without Luke interupting as he sometimes does. But when we got to the pastor's turn to close the prayer, Luke not so quietly says, "Who dat guy, Mama?"
Whenever Luke hears something he puts his hand to his ear and says, "What's dat, Mama?" Its funny the things he hears. Yesterday it was the chicken sizzling in the pan, but this was amongst a lot of other noise. He must have his Daddy's ability to hear everything.
Luke is practicing his likes and dislikes. He mostly dislikes - even things he liked 5 minutes ago! He wanted to have some of Daddy's potato salad (which he's never had before) so he says, "I like it. My favorite." (I'm sure he got "favorite" from Lincoln who says that a lot.) Daddy gave him a bite. He spit it out and said, "I don't like it."
Brody points at everything that he wants and says, "ugh, ugh." He'll often use his whole body to say it depending on how excited he is about it. Sometimes he'll tip his head onto his shoulder as he points.
Brody jumps on the bed with Luke. But since he can't stand up he puts his hands on the bed, gets up on his feet and starts jumping. Its the funniest thing!
Brody insists on eating with a bowl and utensils. If he sees that you have a spoon or fork and he doesn't, he will scream and refuse to eat until he gets one. This goes for the bowl his food originated from too.
We asked Luke if he wanted to go to Puggles. He said, "Yea, I wanna play and sing." Later that when he got home, I asked him if he had fun at Puggles. His response in his choppy language, "I learn - about - God."
Luke was playing his Leap Frog video game with Ella. It was his turn, so he was standing on the mat and using the controller. I told him to hop off - it was Ella's turn now. To which he responded, "No, my turn." I should know by now that this kind of demand does not work with Luke. So I refrased, I don't know how I said it but it was something along the lines of "find a place to stop so Ella can have a turn." He got one more point, jumped off and said, "Ella's turn!" I think he needs the freedom to decide for himself and then he is happy to do comply. Later in this interaction Ella was not standing on the correct color. When the game told her to stand on the orange home spot, Luke repeated it, bent down and guided Ella's legs back to the orange spot. Evidence (among other things) that God has made him to be a little leader.
Brody and I were coloring. Luke came over and wanted to write his name. As I wrote an L, I said "L." To our shock and surprise, he continued with "U-K-E." We could not believe he was spelling his name!
Mom: You're getting so big.
Luke: I little.
